A quick search on the terms theology and theism show a large number of differing definitions and views. There are many other “isms” found alongside theism. Google found terms such as classical theism, open theism, monotheism, process theism, pantheism, and panentheism, along with several others. It does not take long to discover there are many different theories and beliefs involving God. Theism is the belief of the God of the Bible or “belief in the existence of one God viewed as the creative source of the human race and the world who transcends yet is immanent in the world” (Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary, n.d.). Christians, especially in today’s modern world full of competing views, must understand

God can and does perform miracles. Given that God is both external to and in this world, He understands current worldly situations and has the power to intervene if He so chooses. In the Bible, we see many of God’s mighty miracles. When Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were thrown into the fiery furnace, God stepped in and through a miracle saved them (Dan. 3:19-27). Through this one act alone, God saved three men and caused Nebuchadnezzar and others to witness the power and grace of God (Dan. 3:28-29).
God generally works quietly and at times mankind is unable to see the progress He has created. In Bible times, God performed miraculous acts in the world as he intervened in various situations. Current times do not find the types of large miracles as evidenced in the Bible. This does not in any way diminish God’s power or God’s love for mankind now. Miracles are done in God’s time and always for His purpose. Miracles allow humans to experience the power of God and can bring others closer to God. Theism supports a supernatural God who is capable of both minute and grand

By studying theism and the three basic beliefs central to theism, Christians can understand their purpose as God created them. God first and foremost is both inherent to and beyond the world as we know it. He created the world and everything in it and yet still interacts with and sustains it. Although God generally works quietly, His power is infinite and He can perform miracles as he deems necessary. There are many “isms” in the study of theology, although Christians should believe and study the one perfect, all powerful, creator of the world who both interacts with the world and at the same time exists external to the world in order to understand their faith, their world and their

Wajeeha: For a miracle to happen, there should be credible witnesses while the miracle is happening. David Hume is an enlightenment philosopher of the 18th century. In general, Hume says that miracles are something that defy the laws of nature and have never, or should never, occur. He does not claim that miracles never occurred, but concludes that it is not rational to belief them. Most miracles are religion based because God would be the only one with the power to perform them. Hume says that everyone should be skeptical of miracles, and has two main arguments for why he says that; a priori and a posterior.…

Maurice Wiles rejects the idea of an interventionist God that created the universe. He does not reject it on the grounds of logic or science and he doesn’t see anything logically wrong with the idea that God could choose whether he wanted create miracles or not, but rather he rejected them from a moral perspective. The one miracle Wiles believes in is that God created and is sustaining the world, but he does not intervene in single acts. Wiles defines miracles as “the primary usage for the idea of divine action should be in relation to the world as a whole rather than to a particular occurrence within it”. His definition differs from that of David Hume (1711-1776): “A miracle is a violation of the laws of nature by a particular volition of the deity”…

John Polkinghorne’s ontological argument and Richard Dawkin’s unwavering belief of evolution. Although I believe Polkinghorne’s argument to be undeniably incorrect. I plan to present the strongest evidence for both arguments in an attempt to ultimately see which one is most viable. I may add supporting claims from other philosophers throughout the text to reinforce my argument.…

In the book Joy Unspeakable, Walter Brueggemann notes, lament is the language of prayer in the mouth of people who believes that God will answer, hear, and respond. Prayer has a power if we pray and believe it, we can receive any good thing through Christ. We see in the Biblical story that Isaac prayed to God for his wife, because she was barren; and the lord granted his prayer, and his wife Rebekah conceived. We also witness the power of prayer in the Bible, when Elijah prayed for no rain, and it did not rain for three and half years.…
