Conformity can be seen as good or bad through many point of views. One could be that it’s penitentiary of one’s uniqueness because everyone tends to insult or disrespect each other’s features. One pro could be that everyone can be exactly the same where no one can stand out. Professor Keating states, “If you want to leave a legacy, seize the day” (Dead Poets Society). When he asks his students to try to name anyone in the picture, none of them had a clue of who those people were. Therefore, he instructs them to “seize the day” so when they leave the academy or pass away they will be remembered for their actions. Professor Keating non-conformed by telling his students to be unique whereas the headmaster does not want any diversity in the academy. This shows that Keating’s style of teaching differs from the other professors. Status Theory can be summed up to four major points: Conformity to the norms: when groups of higher status and power socially reinforce their views and opinions so to others their behaviors and mannerisms are the norm. This makes it difficult for non-conformists to match up to their popularity and push their own agendas onto the masses. Social association: the status of the people who you associate with (be it your friends, family, or romantic partner(s)) will affect your own status. People with higher statuses will be more attractive while people with lower statuses will attract a different sort of opinion.…

Four years ago, my family migrated to America with views of America as a land of opportunity and Americans as an intellectual society with a high regard for formality and knowledge. Based on four years of living in America, I now think extremely different as opposed to my pre-migration beliefs. For example people, specifically children and teenagers, live their lives daily without regard for the use of profanity or colloquial language. Although Americans do possess positive qualities, negative qualities do largely account for the definition of an American. In relation to life status, Americans are: judgemental, workaholic, and ignorant.…

Conformity vs Individuality:Who Cares Conformity means compliance with standards, rules, or laws; on the contrary, nonconformity means failure or refusal to conform to a prevailing rule or practice. But should we as humans put each other in a box? why must we be defined as a conformist or nonconformist? My own claim states people who claim to be non conformist are trying to stand out to get attention and people who are conformist are trying to fit in to get attention and my opinion is everyone should simply be themselves. Yes, we might get praised for being a slave to the new trends and we might get all the attention that we seek, but at the end of the day this is also what creates people who have no substance, no personal opinion on a topic because they have been busy following others that they lost who they were and now finding themselves will be very difficult when they could have simply been themselves the whole time.…
