Comparison And Contrast Essay's 'Beowulf'

Beowulf is a story of a heroic man who was a brave and confident Geat warrior. In the story Beowulf’s duty is to defeat a horrible monster named Grendel. Grendel had been terrorizing the Danes people for many years and was never stopped. Beowulf fulfills his duty, however he goes through many triumphs and tribulations after doing so. The story is told through text and through text and through a movie. There are many differences between the book and the movie such a how Beowulf portrayed himself to the Danes people, the curse of Grendel’s mother, and the way Unfer interferes with Beowulf’s involvement to get rid of Grendel. First, the main difference known between the book and the movie was the truth that Beowulf did not tell the Danes people. In the book it seems as if everything Beowulf said was the truth however, that was not the case. Beowulf lied about many events that took place when speaking to the Danes people and Hrothgar. Beowulf told a lie as soon as he arrived when telling a tale of how he killed several sea monsters which was only partly true because one was not sea monsters but in fact a mermaid. Beowulf also lied about ripping Grendel’s arm off with his bare hands which was told in the book but instead he used a door to break the limb. Unfer ,who was Hrothgar’s assistant, did not take a liking to Beowulf when Beowulf arrived to the kingdom. When Beowulf told his tales, Unfer found it hard to believe his stories as if they were fake. Unfer would test Beowulf with his nerves. Unfer became fed up with Beowulf’s bragging. It wasn’t until Beowulf had to defeat Grendel that Unfer believed Beowulf and decided to make a truce with him by giving him a sword that was in his family for many generations.
