The 1968 movie Romeo and Juliet is about two lovers in Verona, Italy who are apart of two rival families. The movie shows the hardship of love and how love shall prevail over anything, including death. The movie is apart of the romance and drama genres and was published by BHE Films. Romeo (played by Leonard Whiting) was a young man apart of the Montague family and Juliet (played by Olivia Hussey) was a very young girl apart of the Capulet family. Franco Zeffirelli had directed the film and the film had made a gross of $42,000,000. The 1968 production of Romeo and Juliet is set in Verona, Italy. Juliet did good with her role showing much emotion with every scene she was in. The two portrayed the love of their characters perfectly and were almost always making you feel the emotions their characters felt in every scene. The movie was amazing and I personally loved it. The movie was always good and never was too slow or too fast. To me the movie was very good with a lot of action. The fight scene between Tybalt and Mercutio was amazing. The movie was however a little slow or boring due to Juliet’s character being just plain out boring sometimes. Also Romeo’s character seemed a little too whiny and just seemed very “woe is me” kind of attitude. Although there was some bad parts to the movie I did learn a little from the movie. The movie shows that hate causes death and destruction. In the movie four people die because of the hate between Capulets and the Montagues. Because of the hate between the families people died and they learned and I learned that hate produces nothing productive. Another lesson the movie showed was that you should never assume things. Two people also died because of both of them assuming. This movie was good and I would recommend it to some

In my opinion, the most effective portrayal of the balcony scene was found in Zeffirelli's version. Not only is the play presented better in the Zeferilli version, but it also agreed more with Shakespeare’s time. In the modern version, the portrayal of Romeo’s impulsive, love-sick behaviour is not expressed as sufficiently in contrast to the Zeferilli version. We can see how young and impulsive lovers are when they profess their love for each other.…

Many of the characters act the same in the play and the movie giving a good representation of the play. Someone who watches the movie and does not read the play might get that Romeo is very moody and irrational, which is also shown throughout the play because of Romeo’s rash decisions. The play includes a large fight between Mercutio and Tybalt before both of them die, Mercutio first by Tybalt and then Tybalt by Romeo. In the play, Romeo fights Tybalt after Tybalt kills Mercutio just like in the movie, the Prince can be quoted speaking to the town’s people, “Where are the vile beginners of this fray?” (III.i.135).…

From the beginning we are told, "Verona was being torn by a terrible, bloodthirsty feud which no human endeavor had been able to settle [. . .]" (Charlton 147). In the play and the movie, Romeo and Juliet are similar to all victims of tragedy. Both characters "are isolated-even from each other-before they are destroyed" (Goldman 167). In the play and the movie, their families' names, Romeo's banishment from Verona, and the poison separate them. The feud "was the direct cause of the death of the lovers, and but for those deaths it never would have been healed" (Charlton…

“Proud I can never be of what I hate” This could be put down to a number of things, Juliet becoming a teenager since she is only thirteen; the death of her close cousin, Tybalt, or her love for romeo. I feel this is effective because it leaves the audience to question whether her relationship has ultimately changed her. This brings out the parental instincts in each member of the audience and makes them question what they would do if Juliet were their daughter. Shakespeare, by doing this, again highlights that love can develop many emotions not jus happiness.…
