Both Whitman and Dickinson have a very dark perception on what life is about. Dickinson has less of a colorful range of words. She is very open to the idea of death and to some extent accepts it very easily. This gives you the kind of idea that she enjoyed the thought of death. With Whitman, he is extremely repetitive with his words and statements. He is less open about the idea of death by the way he states his words. While reading his poems you really have to look more into what he is saying because most of the time his poems have a multitude of meanings even behind one saying.
