Comparing Victor Hugo's Les Miserables And The Kite Runner

In society today, you see a lot of barbaric acts. On February 24, 2018, an article was posted about the Turpin family going to court. Mr. and Mrs. Turpin had tortured and abused their twelve children and are currently facing more than forty charges. People see Mr. and Mrs. Turpin as extremely barbaric people, and for good reason. This is just one case of parents abusing their own children. In today’s society, many of us know treating one child like a god and mistreating another is barbaric. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini supply the evidence needed to support these claims .
In Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables, it is stated on page 63 “It was the money they wanted. They gave the skirt to Eponine. The poor lark still shivered”. The Thenardiers are using Cosette to get money, they do not care for her, unless it

In Victor Hugo's Les Miserables the Thenardiers were good people in the eyes of their community, but behind closed doors they were horrible people to Cosette. On page 149 “She had a black eye from a blow of the Thenardierss' fist,” is the behind closed doors. They abuse Cosette if she doesn't do something right or fast enough for their liking. But on page 48 “What good people these Thenardiers are! They are not rich, and yet they bring up a poor child that has been left with them.” is how people viewed them. People don't know what happens to Cosette at night or the chores she does. If their community knew what happened behind closed doors they would be labeled as barbaric. But the Thenardiers having such a good image even when people get to see what goes on to Cosette all the abuse and mistreatments people still would believe it. The Thenardiers are a great example of how people view them affect how they act. They don't act barbaric when others are in the inn only when they are
