Comparing Two Characters In S. E. Hinton's The Outsiders

I am comparing two people. One person is Ponyboy from The Outsiders. He is kind of a poor person who lives with his two brothers, on the poor side of the town. The other person is me. I am a sporty and weird person. I live with my Mom, brother, and two sisters.

The first person that I am talking about is Ponyboy. He was raised by his two brothers after both of his parents died. His oldest brother Darry finished school and went to work. Sodapop on the other hand, he dropped out, but he still has a job. Pony is still in school and he does fairly well. But as the story progresses, a group of Socs--the rivals of the greasers-- rolled up in a blue Mustang. The group of Socs hopped out of the car and started to fight with Pony and Johnny when they were sitting by a fountain. The Socs started beating them up, and they were about to drown Pony. Jonny then stabbed and killed one guy and the rest ran off. Ponyboy doesn't really have a good living environment. A lot of rough and mean events like that shape who Pony is. By the end of the book, he broke a bottle to threaten a Soc. At the beginning, he would never even think of doing that.

One difference is that they have different opinions on whether or not Ponyboy should change. For example, Johnny tells Ponyboy to stay innocent, kind and just the way he is. In the letter that Johnny leaves behind for Pony, he speaks of Pony’s fondness of sunsets and says, “That’s gold. Keep that way, it’s a good way to be” (178). Johnny does not want Ponyboy to become harsh and cruel like Dally and this is very apparent in his letter.…

They are always at ease around each other and can tell each other anything.
