One of the longest held debates with generation Xer’s is, “The book or the movie, which is better?” Ask any person who loves to read and they will undoubtedly say the book is always better, citing that it gives more detail and explanation to characters and events. But, ask any avid movie-goer, and they will usually say the movie is always better. The movie can bring characters to life and evoke emotion through facial expressions and music. In the case of Tuesdays with Morrie (1999), the book lovers definitely win out. Although the movie displays superior acting and brings the book to life on the big screen, the depth of the story still papes in comparison to the words on a page., but in the case of Morrie Schwartz’s life story and message, the book has a much greater impact and allows the reader to assimilate the ideas and messages into his/her own life. You need to do a better job of introducing the film.

Morrie creates these great one-liners, euphemisms, throughout the story and although the movie follows the storyline, for the most part, much of the impact of Morrie’s words are lost on the screen. They are said and then it quickly moves onto the next scene. When reading the book, one is able to see those ideas staring back at him on paper: strong, stoic, and clear. When reading the book, the ideas and messages that Morrie wants people to hear cannot be quickly glossed over, they must be read, seen, digested, assimilated, and understood before the reader is able to move forward in the story.
