Thomas Jefferson was born April 13, 1743, in Shadwell, Virginia to Jane Randolph Jefferson and Peter Jefferson. He was the third of ten siblings. Jefferson enjoyed playing the woods, practicing the violin and reading. He started his formal education at the age of nine. He attended a private school where he studied Greek and Latin. At the age of 14 Jefferson did further studies in classical languages, literature, and mathematics. He left for college in 1760 and went to the College of William and Mary. Thomas dropped out after only 3 years to study law under Wythe, a college friend. He did a five-year study under Wythe and became one of the best lawyers at the time.
