Chris decided he was going to be a good father to his son because he never met his dad until he was twenty eight years old. He didn’t let his wife take his kid because he wants his son to know who his father is. Also when they were in the subway because they got kicked out of there motel they were living in, he pretended with his son that his scanner was a time machine, and pretended that there were dinosaurs. This can connect to the story “Paradox and Dream” when it says, “We spend our time searching for security ,and hate it when we get it.” i disagree with this statement in this situation because every time chris found security like a home or somewhere to stay he appreciated it for as long as they had it.

Chris was very determined because he never stopped trying to get money to support his son. When he heard about the job he ran directly to the manager of the company. Also chris was determined to solve the rubik's cube to impress the manager of the company he was trying to work for. Even when his scanners got stolen he ran in the street to get them back. Also he got hit by a car and still went back to work. Chris wanted to skip the other calls and call directly to the CEO and he got a meeting with him and missed it and went to his house to re schedule it and they ended up going to

After chris fixed his scanner he continued to try to sell his scanner, and stayed in a hotel for a night after selling it. Chris was working for a job he may never get money from in hopes of getting money in the future. Chris ran away from a taxi cab driver so he didn’t have to pay for his ride because he had no money. This can connect to the story “Montgomery boycott” because Martin Luther King Jr. tried really hard to have the equality that the white people had and he wasn’t going to stop until he got

TJ Shehee 10/9/17 English A3 Ms. Ervin An Odyssey For Pride In the studied non-fiction book “Into the Wild”, by Jon Krakauer, the author summarizes the multi-perspective, extraneous life, and death of a young risked taker who went by the name Alexander Supertramp. After reading and discussing this novel, one can conclude Alex (Chris McCandless) renounced society and his family because he wanted to escape from the stress of civilian life and void his wealthy upbringing. After constructing many dialogue journals, a common theme of pride became relevant. While this claim may spawn from ideals by John Haines in his epigraph, evidence of asceticism can be found throughout Chapter Thirteen titled Virginia Beach and is mentioned continuously throughout…

This lead to a mutual lack of understanding between Chris and his parents, which no doubt was part of what drove Chris to the wild. There is a small part in every human that has a desire to “break out of the box” in some aspect of their life. Whether that box is of their own creation, or constructed by the expectations of others, it’s only natural that humans feel pressure to some extent in their lives. Over time, that pressure can become overwhelming, and, like in Chris’ case, can cause an individual to run.…

I have to agree with the author. Chris was a pilgrim looking for something different in his life. I feel like a lot of people fail to see the actual point on why Chris did what he did. It’s wrong to make false judgements about people without knowing the full story on why they did it. I agree with the author when he defends Chris saying that he wasn’t incompetent or crazy.…

Jon Krakauer, in his novel Into the Wild, tells the story of Chris McCandless, a young man who set out to survive in the Alaskan wilderness without proper preparation. Chris was a young man who ventured all throughout North America living off of the barest of essentials/resources. Unfortunately, he paid the ultimate price for his lack of preparation and naivety in the end. Chris was found dead in an abandoned Fairbanks City bus on the Stampede Trail in Alaska. Thus the novel was written to further describe the events leading up to Chris McCandless’ death.…

Today’s survivalists now bring many things for survival. Tent’s, plenty of food, proper weapons and ammo, and most importantly: some sort of electronic beacon/radio that can hone in on their position if activated so they can be rescued if they are in some sort of sticky situation. Chris had absolutely none of these things and he expected to survive for an extended period of time. Don’t bother with trying to ask him about why he did this as his lifeless body was found inside of an abandoned bus which was nick-named the Magic Bus(too much, Magic Bus! ha, funny…

The novel, Into the Wild, written by Jon Krakauer, is a riveting, cautionary tale about the death of Chris McCandless, a young man who embarks on a journey to Alaska to seek the truth of happiness through the solitude of nature and free himself from the constraints of society. No doubt, the ongoing theme throughout Krakauer’s novel is the dysfunctional father-son relationship between Chris and his dad. In fact, McCandless died before he had the chance to grow out of his anger. Into the Wild examines the fatal expedition of Chris McCandless as he breaks all ties from society and challenges his ability to survive in the wilderness. Through the use of primary sources, situational irony, and syntax, Krakauer thoroughly captures the compelling tragedy of Chris McCandless.…

On page 120 it says “Many aspects of Chris’s personality baffled his parents. He could be generous and caring to a fault, but he had a darker side as well, characterized by monomania, impatience, and unwavering self-absorption, qualities that seemed to intensify through his college years.” Therefore Chris’s childhood made him have enough with is father to where he left him, and tried to make him mad by giving all his own money for college to charity. It is clearer to people that these are the reasons why Chris didn’t communicate with his parents the whole journey through…
