This works by checks and balances. Each branch checks the other and creates balance. So that one branch does not have too much power. Which creates limited government because the different branches are limited in what they can do. They all hold power but not all the power. Checks and balances came from the constitution where the people did not want the government having too much control. “The power of each branch of government is checked, or limited, and balanced because the legislative, executive, and judicial branches share some authority, and no branch has exclusive domain over any single activity” (41). The legislative branch checks the executive by being able to impeach the president. Executive checks the legislative by veto legislation. Then the judicial checks the executive by saying if the actions of the executive are unconstitutional. Executive checks the judicial by being able to appoint federal judges. Last but not least the legislative checks the judicial by being able to impeach federal judges and overrule judicial decisions by proposing the constitution. Judicial checks the legislative by ruling federal and state laws unconstitutional.
