It’s the same moral standards that they must follow with parents. Intelligence of Samurais is an essential part of the code. It is important because it keeps them educated and their minds are always active. It is recommended that Samurais take part in Literature courses in their down time. In addition to taking literature courses in downtime, they must also keep their fighting skills to a high standard. When it comes to appearance, Samurais must always look their best, even if they die. One thing they did was sprinkle sweet-smelling perfume on their scalps before putting their helmets on to ensure their heads smell good. Last important thing when it came to samurais was “shame”. If a warrior was considered to be shameful, it not only affected the individual samurai, but also affects the entire clan of the particular samurai. They also must protect their lord from any sort of shame. The only way a samurai could get out of his shame, was to commit suicide. Both of these codes have a lot of different standards that define the making of these warriors. The idea of shame is another comparable aspect between the two. Also, both warriors and knights were warriors who were very loyal to their lords, which in return were given land and money by the lord in which they had served. Other than that, there is not really anything else that is too similar between these two codes. There are however, many differences that will be noted. First, when it comes to IQ standards, the Samurais have a higher IQ because of all of the literature and craft classes they take. The Knights however have a lower IQ because they are not required to take part in the strenuous academic criteria as the samurais. The way knights could gain ranking points was by winning jousting competitions, whereas the Samurais did not gain rank like that. Instead, they gained rank by participating in battles. It also had to do with the rank of the lord that they are serving under. When it came to religion, the Samurais ways were more based of off their religion while the knights were not nearly as invested in religion as their foundation for their code ethics.
