Lennie acted as if he was an animal. He used his instincts instead of thinking things through. “His huge companion dropped his blankets and flung himself down and drank from the surface of the green pool; drank with long gulps, snorting into the water like a horse” (Steinbeck 3). Lennie did not stop to think about the possibility that the water he was drinking could be contaminated. He dove into the water without thinking. Lennie not only acts like an animal, but he also has the strength of one. Lennie killed a puppy and said that it was the puppy’s fault for dying because it was too little. Lennie liked to pet mice because he liked the way their fur felt, but he always ended up killing them. Lennie crushed Curley’s hand because he did not know when he was supposed to let go or how hard he was really squeezing. Lennie also killed Curley’s wife because of his strength. He did not do it out of meanness. He latched onto her hair because she was being loud and it scared him. He didn’t mean to break her neck, but not knowing his own strength and being frightened lead up to it. George was right to kill Lennie. Lennie could hurt anyone or anything with the strength he had and that makes him very dangerous to anyone he comes in contact
