759 Words Dec 6th, 2016 4 Pages
In the novel Pride and Prejudice there are two main relationships. The first relationship is between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. The other relationship is between Elizabeth’s oldest sister Jane Bennet and Mr. Bingley. These two relationships directly contrast one another. They have many similarities and differences in their relationships.
In the relationship of Jane Bennet and Mr. Bingley you can see that the characters are very similar. Jane is a very gentle and patient girl. Mr. Bingley also has those characteristics.
Both of the characters love to socialize and meet new people. Their relationship was more influenced by outside characters. Mr. Bingley’s sister didn’t dislike Jane but wasn’t fond of the
Bennets because of Elizabeths bold attitude and the financial position of their family. For the most part the relationship went very smoothly and filled with love. In the novel it says “Jane could have no reserves from Elizabeth, where confidence would give pleasure; and instantly embracing her, acknowledged, with the liveliest emotion, that she was the happiest creature in the world” (Austen 4357). From this quote you can tell how excited she is with her engagement with Mr. Bingley. In the novel it also says “Elizabeth had now but little time for conversation with her sister; for while he was present, Jane had no attention to bestow on anyone else”
(Austen 4393). This was showing her excitement to spend time with Mr. Bingley after they had been engaged.
