Comparing The Movie The Devil's Arithmetic

Could you picture six million people dying for no reason. Dying because they were sick and could not work. Dying because they were too young or because the parent wouldn’t let the child die so they got killed with them. It seems kind of ridiculous but this happened to the jews during World War II. The book The Devil’s Arithmetic and the movie The Devil’s Arithmetic explained how awful the camps were and how bad the nazis treated the jews. They book and the movie were alike in some parts, but they are way different overall.
The book The Devil’s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen explained to me how bad the jews got treated during WWII. The book had way more detail than the movie The Devil’s Arithmetic(which came out March 33, 1999). The overall story

If you don’t know who the characters are, you are most likely going to get confused. You have to know who the characters are if you want to get the overall point of the book or the movie. There was a gargantuan amount of people in the book and the movie. Hannah is the main character in the book and the movie. She goes into the “different world”, and the book and the movie are based around her. Aunt Eva is very important to Hannah because she gets hannah. She gets that Hannah doesn’t want to go to Passover, but she tells hannah that she needs to because it is family tradition. Aunt Eva gets Hannah better than Hannah’s parents do. You cannot have a book or a movie without having plot. Plot is probably the most important part of a book/movie. Plot is the storyline and is very important. The book and the movie mostly have the same plot. There are little parts that are different but there are also big parts that are different. In the book and the movie, Hannah thinks that she is hallucinating when she goes into the “different world”. She thinks she is drunk from all of the wine she drank. She was very wrong… When she gets to the “different world”, no one believes Hannah when she says that the nazi officers will take them to the camps, or that six million Jews will die. No one believes her, and a lot of the people end up dying in the camp. Hannah doesn’t ever say “I told you so!” Or “you should have listened”, because she has great character. Another big part of books and movies, is the theme. The theme is what the author tries to base the story on. The theme is the lesson of the story. There are many themes in The Devil’s Arithmetic but I think the main theme is, “Don’t forget the past”. That is a very important theme and I think that is what Jane Yolen was trying to get to

She doesn’t want to take part in the traditions of her family. She complains about going to Passover dinner with her family, but she really enjoys spending time with her Aunt Eva, a recurring character throughout the novel. Passover is significant to this part of the novel, because it is a holiday that focuses on remembering those who have come before, and it is not until Hannah is ripped from her modern life and thrown into Holocaust-era Europe that she appreciates her heritage. ‘“It’s about remembering” “All Jewish holidays are about remembering, Mama. I’m tired of remembering.…

Perhaps the most dreadful event in recent history is the tragedy that befell the world during the Holocaust. Throughout a twelve year period, the Nazis were able to wreak havoc and torture innocent people purely because of their “inferiority”. The Nazi ideology was rooted in the idea that the German race was superior to all, and this state of mind was behind all of the atrocities that took place in Germany and surrounding areas. While the majority of the worst travesties took place during the final years of the holocaust, there was a significant build-up to those events, which took place throughout the years from 1933 to 1938. During these years, the Nazis began to show their true intention to the world, and began their systematic persecution…

The Holocaust, which was the systematic persecution and murder of over six million Jews during World War II, is often cited as one of the worst atrocities committed in the history of human civilization. People speak of it in hushed, mournful voices as they wonder at how the German Nazis could be so malevolent as to annihilate a whole generation of Jews. Hundreds of eminent scholars have eloquently explained the horrific nature of the Holocaust and its effects on the modern world (Gerstenfeld). Yet, it can be said that emphasis should be placed on understanding why Adolf Hitler decided to exterminate so many Jews. Only by looking through the perspective of the Nazis can one begin to understand that the Nazi Party and its leader, Hitler, brutally…
