Sometimes the greatest fears in life are the ones that involve life and death; furthermore, these fears expose what it really means to be human. In the story, The Most Dangerous Game, written by Richard Connell, a world-renown hunter falls of a yacht, gets stranded on an island, and learns what it means to be hunted. In the film, High Noon by Carl Foreman, the skilled Marshall has to protect himself and the town from a man and his posse seeking revenge. In both the film and the text, the main characters and conflicts are similar; however the settings are vastly different which affect how the course of events play out. Will Kane, the main character in High Noon, is an experienced Marshall who has the perseverance and strong willed personality …show more content…
'"The island is perfect for my purposes—there are jungles with a maze of traits in them, hills, swamps—"' (Connell 12). The setting portrayed in The Most Dangerous Game helps add to the overall ambience included in the text. If the same situations were to occur but somewhere else it wouldn't be as successful. The inclusion the island, which is isolated, is what makes this game easy to hide from the lawmen and outside world. In the film, they are located in a remote town which allows for the lawlessness that makes the events possible. The difference between the territory and a busy city is what makes the possibly for crime to be at a higher risk. '"You get out of here, Will! You get out of town this minute"' (Foreman 55)! Will Kane had the opportunity to escape from his troubles. Kane was suppose to leave town for his honeymoon. Will left and was to be gone by the time Frank Miller had arrived on the Noon train, even though that is not what resulted in the end. Rainsford had no choice, he was stuck. He was not allowed to leave the island unless he had survived the game run by Zaroff that lasted three days. If he tried to escape it would not be easy and he would most likely be caught and killed. Both settings have some similarities but a large amount of differences. In the text, they were located on a tropical island, …show more content…
Rainsford was given a limited amount of time until he was safe. Zaroff allowed him three days and if he was not killed by then he would be set free as long as he would not say a word. Sanger was expected to be dead by that time but in the end he prevailed. Will Kane had until the noon train came in to get ready for a battle or leave town. Although he chose to leave originally he came back and waited for Frank to arrive. Kane had a limited time to prepare and was not able to get the resources he had wished to get. If time was not an issue he may have been able to handle the outcome in a more efficient way. Will Kane was alone. The one person who agreed to help him, Herb, backed out when he discovered it would only be Will and him fighting together. Will was the underdog, it was a posse of four against one, Kane. Nobody believed Kane would live after he faced the terrible wrath of Frank Miller and his gang. Rainsford was all alone on Ship-Trap island when he needed to face the antagonist and his helpers. Sanger had to survive his three days in the jungle by himself with no help from other people while at the same time he was being fought. The odds were also greatly against him, for Zaroff had never lost his game. The conflicts of both the text and the film share similarities although the plot of the story is vastly different.
