There are many similarities in the two short story's "The Monkeys Paw" and "The Third Wish". But one thing that stood out was the overall mood. The overall mood to both stories is magical because all throughout the stories that is shown. The story "The Monkeys Paw" is about this man who comes to this family's house and gives them a magical paw that grants 3 wishes but he warned them and said they did not all turn out well. All throughout that story you see the mood magical. The author writes "Well, it's just a bit of what you call magic, perhaps "(88). Magical is shown in this quote because it tells you about how the man is telling the family about who the paw can be described as being magical. The story "The Third Wish" is about a man who goes into the woods and finds a struggling swan and helps the swan and after that a genie appears and grants him 3 wishes. The author writes, " I expect 3 wishes, no more no less, answered Mr. Peters, looking at hike steadily and with composure. Three wishes, he wants, the clever man!" (102). At the end of "The Monkeys Paw" the mood is depressing, because the family's son was killed and he came back from the dead but as a zombie so the father wished for him to go away. The mood at the end of "The Third Wish" is positive, because Mr. Peter had to let his wife go and turn back into a swan but he was not sad because and the end of the story it said he had died but it said he had a smile of great happiness.
