Every time a space movie comes out that involves NASA and other world space agencies, I have the same thought: In recent years, we’ve somehow lost our sense of wonder about space flight — about the fact that we, as a species, are regularly sending human beings off the planet entirely. And, ideally, bringing them back. And that, of course, is the story at the heart of the movies The Martian and The Right Stuff. These movies are masterpieces that tell the story of fearless American astronauts and test pilots who went above and beyond, conquering the sound barrier and space. the essence of the core of the story of the martian, in case you missed it, is; Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is left stranded on Mars when the rest of his crew is forced to leave without him. With any potential rescue mission years away, at best, Watney must improvise and manage resources to survive on his own in an …show more content…
The Right stuff doesn’t take into account the struggle that is the lack of water on space and thus it was not made aware to us how the astronauts received water. This was rectified in the The Martian where a drop of sweat or urine was not wasted as it all went into the water reclaimer to produce the water they needed for survival
Although in both movies, the astronauts wore spacesuits, the spacesuits in The Right Stuff were costumes made by the costume department, those worn in The Martian were the space suits used by actual NASA astronauts. They allow for flexibility, comfort and reliability so as to easier navigate Mars and the long treks that would have to be made during the period of their space

Humans are very curious. So it was completely natural for Ray Bradbury’s book, The Martian Chronicles, tries to show us the unforeseen consequences of such curiosity, only with exploring Mars. With almost the entire Martian race being wiped out by people, it’s no surprise that humans also almost wipe themselves out with atomic warfare. The consequences of the war and wiping out of almost the entirety of all races are huge and serious. I think the main message of the book is that humans have no idea their impact on their environment, colonization isn’t always a good thing, and that some people on Mars wanted to keep it the same.…

In Packing for Mars, Mary Roach communicates that the most interesting part of space travel is humanity and the complicated obstacles that come with it. Roach’s purpose is to argue that although they present difficult challenges, much can be learned about humanity through space travel. To support this argument, the author compares humanity to machinery and the opinions of scientists to her own, provides anecdotes concerning the humanity of astronauts, and describes the struggles and morality of those changed by space from their answers to an interview. The first rhetorical strategy present in the excerpt is comparison.…

Introduction Science from Mary Shelley's age and today are seen in two different lights because of the knowledge known about it at the time. During Shelley’s time period science was still foreign to the average individual, so it could almost be seen as mythical and scary. While in today's modern times, science is accepted and celebrated. In Frankenstein science is shown more as an individual pursuit and what scientist did was in secret and they were secluded from their peers. In the Martian it shows that modern day science is seen more as a collaborative pursuit with people working as a team.…

The entire universe is 45 billion light years, and humans have only explored 0.032 light years of it (“NASA Book”). This brings the percentage of our universe explored to less than one billionth of a percent (“NASA Book”). Some of the general public are satisfied with this amount of exploration and are not willing to give more funds to NASA because they believe it’s budget is large enough. However, there are a plethora of people who disagree. These people strongly believe in expanding NASA’s recently decreased budget, which would allow for further exploration to take place in the hopes of achieving new levels of discovery.…
