These stories describe how war destroys those who are involved. The novel The Wars by Timothy Findley presents the reader with many normative assumptions that can be recognized as troubling. From the passage above an example of this would be masculinity and heroism. The reader learns that when Robert is in the brothel, his curiosity brings him to observing Taffler having sex with another man (Findley, 42-43). After what Robert has seen he is left distraught, because he decided Taffler is the person he wants as a mentor. Philip Caputo’s A Rumor of War tells the story of a man’s demoralization during the Vietnam war and how it is associated with a refusal to any direct guilt for his own actions in that war. Throughout the book, you can sense the murderousness that comes from Caputo due to several reasons. Although, at the end of the book, he does not confess this murderousness urge that he experienced during his time in Vietnam. Overall, I believe that Philip Caputo was able to prove that he is not guilty and that he is a victim to the U.S. government and the U.S. military as well as the environment of Vietnam, and the relentlessness of combat training. Coming straight out of his own mouth, Caputo was able to prove compelling evidence that these forces developed…

Munro presents the “character vs. self” conflict as the most significant. This is because it affected the inciting incident, rising action of the story, and climax. The first reason of why the “character vs. self” conflict was the most important, is because it created the inciting incident.…

While The Machine That Won the War by Isaac Asimov and The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin are both very ironic stories, they have two different types of irony. The main theme of The Machine That Won the War is a machine, called the Multivac. Yet it is found out the machine really did not win or even help out in the war, ironically contradicting the title. The results were just being doctored by John Henderson, the main character, and his superior, Jablonsky, to make it seem the machine actually won the war.…
