Many believe that the Holocaust is one of the most senseless concepts in the history of humankind. The Holocaust happened during the early parts of the twentieth century before the expansion of World War II. It is a theory that was backed up by the Germans, which intended to kill all racially individuals. The holocaust had played a major part in these two character’s lives. In both, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Bruno, and The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne, World War II had a huge impact on the family and the characters sense of self. Bruno had to move out of his old house because of his fathers job, they ended up moving to a house where a concentration camp was just yards away. Bruno had asked his mother what the maid was doing with his clothes and she had replied with “She’s packing them” (Boyne 2) of course Bruno was furious and had to find out why they were moving which was because of his fathers job. Anne Frank and her family had to worry about being found in the attic, they would have to be very quiet and could only walk when the store was closed. “The people in hiding have to stay indoors around the clock. They must also be extremely quiet during the day when people are at work in the warehouse downstairs” (“Anne Frank”). Being quiet was the main key to hiding, especially if they wanted to survive after the war had ended. Anne Frank didn’t have much to do in hiding until she received her diary, she would write everything that had happened during her stay in the annex. Anne was not a patient girl and loved the outdoors, since she could not do anything but sit quietly she would write in her diary. Anne Frank had to keep quiet when she was in the annex, which would mean she had to mature a little quicker than she had expected. “Anne is arrested along with all the others. In the Auschwitz concentration camp, Anne ends up in the same barracks as her mother and sister”(“Anne Frank”). The reason they had been arrested is because someone had heard them in the annex and decided to betray them by turning them in. The family was then take away to concentration camps. Anne Frank also had matured by developing her relationships with her family and being forced to understand her parents and sister on a deeper level. Anne and her mother’s relationship in hiding was at times complicated (“Anne Frank”). Even though Anne and her mother’s relationship was tough they still maintained a safe environment so they would not be caught by the Nazi Soldiers. Bruno would have to realize that moving to a different house isn’t the worse thing that could happen, especially since what is happening with World War II. “Of course I don’t like it! It’s awful. There’s nothing to do, there’s no one to talk to, nobody to play with. You can’t tell me that you’re happy we’ve moved here, surely?” (Boyne 57). This is before Bruno had met Shmuel so he did’t have anyone to talk to other than his family. Bruno became immensely bored and just wanted to go back to his old house where all of his friends were. When Anne Frank says that, “Everything she does is right, ,and everything I do is wrong!” I think as a result of Margot being a goody-two-shoe because she doesn’t obtain in trouble and she is beloved by her mother, reasons why she is always right. I think that Anne Frank feels like everyone is against her like she doesn’t belong there, again since her saying the word “goat” describes how she thinks that she doesn’t belong in the Secret Annex with her friends and family. I also think that she feels like everyone won’t accept her, even though she tries so much, by her saying that, “You’re all against me!” meaning that everyone in the Secret Annex won’t accept or are against…

As people hear the word, the Holocaust, the first thing that comes to mind is a time of death and despair rather than the time of great bravery and lessons learned. Due to the true stories, people were able to share with the world, the time period between 1933 and 1945 is known as the Holocaust. Evidently, it is one of the most globally acknowledged genocides in history, where Adolf Hitler and the Nazis went through such dire circumstances to annihilate the Jews in concentration and death camps. They wanted to kill the Jews, not for their wealth and power, but because they were a “poisonous race”. Now imagine numerous children being a part of that.…

The book, Night, by Elie Wiesel and the movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, demonstrates two completely different perspectives towards the Holocaust. Night, a nonfiction memoir, depicted the life and feelings of a young boy who was forced to endure the harshness and depression of a life in a death camp. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, a heartbreaking movie, based on a fictional novel, shares the inimaginable friendship of a Nazi soldier's son, Bruno, with an imprisoned Jewish boy, Shmuel. Together, they risk their lives to save the young Jew's father. Both stories share the same main topic, the Holocaust during World War II.…

The most surprising, interesting or useful piece of information learned through reading Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, by Eleanor Roosevelt was the difference between life in the Secret Annexe and life today. Firstly, the members of the secret annex did not get the pleasure of three meals a day unlike most people today. For example, Anne states, “We’re going to be hungry, but anything is better than being discovered” (240).…
