When a person thinks about what characteristic an amateur detective would have they would often think of a heterosexual sexual male, who is intelligent and may or may not be retired but they do have money. Anything beyond that is determined to be different. When it comes to Lisbeth Salander from, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo film, she could not be anymore more diverse from the typical amateur detective, in more ways than one. Lisbeth is unquestionably a diverse detective because she is a female but, she is also bisexual and she is a very intelligent hacker. She could also be considered diverse just for how she is portrayed, which is as a ‘rocker’ chick with her tattoos, half shaved head, and her piercings. In this video, Jo Nesbo said that death metal and such are what Norway is known for. Therefore, when analyzing how Lisbeth looks, it fits how Nordic individuals would be. Speaking of Jo Nesbo, his novel, the Snowman and this film are similar in the way that they are both fall under the Nordic crime fiction category. There are many similarities between the two but there are only two that really stick out; setting and crimes. The settings in both the Snowman and The Girl with the Dragon tattoo are identical. The scenes through out both are depicted in a dark, unnerving, and snowy light that seems to be absent of life. Which is a typical characteristic of Nordic crime novels. Another resemblance between these two is the type of crimes that happen. All of the crimes in both the Snowman and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo are sexual crimes. These crimes seem to be the main source of why things are the way they are. It also would seem that in Nordic crime fiction that they are very much obsessed with sex; rather it be adultery or
