In conclusion, I read three very different books that ending up relating to each other in ways that can’t be shown just by reading the text; you have to think. I also learned that all books can be similar in one way or another. These books not only strengthened my literature skills but also taught me to think about the text and take in instead of glancing over the…
E.B. White, in his essay “Farewell, My Lovely”, writes about the legacy of the Model T during one of the hardest times in American history, the Great Depression. Through his writing, White reveals the significance the Model T holds to the ever-changing American culture. He uses the Model T to model the Great Depression, and to reminisce on memories of when the Model T was popular. He does this by introducing the Model T as a divine provision: “It was the miracle God had wrought.” The Model T was more than a vehicle; to White, “it was hardworking, commonplace, heroic”, these qualities influenced those who were fortunate enough to own one.…
No author wrote a book in hopes that the reader wouldn't feel a connection or engagement to the story. Every author's intent is to capture or transport the reader, you, even if just for a moment, into a glimpse of their imagined “reality.” When words are given a voice they come to life. A voice gives a novel the ability to transform from a 2 dimensional page into a world where characters have personalities, and scenes feel tangible. Suddenly instead of just looking at a page, the reader is experiencing the story behind the words!…
The use of symbolism, satire, and irony all make this book a bit more intriguing. His transitions from a conversational to a narrative book caught the attention of the reader as they felt as if it were all so real to…
Inquiry Paper “Fiction is like a spider's web, attached ever so lightly perhaps, but still attached to life at all four corners.” ~ Virginia Woolf. For a spider the web is the key part of her existence, spun through individual silk, piece by piece it eventually connects together to form a web that provides life for the spider, a new start. Though weaved with care it does have its limitations in strength, weak and miniature bugs will get caught, but the powerful and big will destroy the web. Incidentally, while reading Michael Ondaatje’s “In the Skin of a Lion”, Paulo Coelho’s “The winner stands alone”, I begin to question what the purpose in reading is?…

Autobiographies and biographies have many differences and similarities at the same time. The contrasting and comparing styles the authors used, the features of the books and the view that it gave me personally were each somewhat different for each of the books. After finishing the books Prepared for a Purpose by Antoinette Tuff and Bonhoeffer by Eric Metaxas they gave the insight to see that these two genres were similar yet unalike at the same time. They style used in the autobiography of Antoinette Tuff was mainly the account of her part in stopping a school shooting, the struggles of her personal life and the way God helped her through it. She spoke in first person throughout the story switching back and forth from the present situation the book was focused on, and her life leading up to that event.…

In “The Appeal of the Androgynous Man,” Amy Gross explains her experience between a masculine man and an androgynous man. It was hard for her to talk to a masculine man because they never had anything in common, however with the androgynous man, they have a lot of similarities and similar interest. Another difference that Amy mentioned about the masculine and the androgynous man are their sensitivity. An androgynous man would notice that you’re having a bad day and would really care that you’re having a bad day and would ask you how you are doing. He would ask you to express yourself and would really cares.…
The watercolors John White painted show the Indians doing everyday things. Often when people think of Indians they think of feathers, face paint, and war. This of course being a stereotype, still plays into our views. Another interesting thing is most of the faces appear to be pleasant not hard and angry. It is also very interesting how he paints some in motion.…
Final American Literature paper The three works that I chose to write about for my final paper for this class are the “Way to Wealth” (1758) by Benjamin Franklin “The Raven” by Edger Allan Poe and “The legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving. The reason that I chose to write about these three pieces is that they really stuck out to me the most in this class. The Way to Wealth stuck out to me one because I had never read it before so it was nice to read something new and it also made me think about what the word wealth actually means. Then I picked The Raven because it is one of my favorite of Edger Allan Poe’s work I love most of his work but The Raven is definitely my favorite.…
I like reading whenever I’m really bored or stressed out. Nicholas Sparks is probably one of my favorite authors. I’m a basic girl, so I love movies about love and about sad things. I think sometimes you just really want to cry, so watching sad movies doesn’t help, but it makes feel not so alone in some ways. All of Nicholas sparks’s books have made really good movies.…
Reading Memoir John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars, stated,” Great books help you understand, and they help you feel understood.” Actually, reading books helps me to explore the world. When I was just a little girl, I loved reading fairy tales which brought me to many vicarious thrilling adventures, and when growing up, non-fiction books taught me how to become a good person. Besides that, reading has brought me to many various levels of emotions, such as joy, love, hate, fear, and sorrow. Some stories not only make me feel euphoric with happy endings, but they also make me feel despondent when a character’s deep sorrow touched my heart.…

Although books and movies have many differences, they have many factors that are alike, as well.…
Diseases and Sicknesses are two negatives people might encounter in their lives and the detrimental effects of these illnesses is the main reason of death. In Thom Gunn’s poem “The Man With Night Sweats” the person is suffering from this disease and he wrote this poem because of the deaths of his friends. Gunn tries to show people how detrimental this disease is as he struggles through life. In “Night Sweat”, written by Robert Lowell, by employing the use of hyperbole and similes, he tries to compare two important and distinct aspects of his personal life, his poetry writing and his disability, whereas in “The Man with Night Sweats” Thom Gunn utilizes visual imagery and the use of hyperbole to create a world where the author suffers from…
