Comparing The Devil And Tom Walker And Young Goodman Brown

The Devil and Tom Walker, and Young Goodman Brown are two works of literature that were written a good amount of time ago. Both works of literature incorporate random parts in them that I thought could go back to Mary Rowlandson. The two stories have a lot in common as well as many differences. The conflict in Tom Walker was that he didn't want to die, and for the devil to take his soul. The conflict in Young Goodman Brown was that everyone around him had been tempted by the devil. They're similar because the devil is the main cause of both of them. Also, they both died lonely and sad because of their encounter with the devil. He didn't believe the devil but found out this his wife was at the witch meeting and he grew afraid of everyone because he thought they were all Christians. The setting of Young Goodman Brown was around the 1600s. While the setting of The Devil and Tom Walker was around 1727. They both took place in the woods for at least a part of the story, or the town. In the Devil and Tom Walker part of the story takes place in his house that he got after he became rich. In Young Goodman Brown he doesn't move like Tom Walker did because the story took a different course. The antagonist of both of the stories was the devil. In the two stories the devil was similar and different in many ways. They both tried to convince or negotiate with the main character. The devil was different in terms of appearance in both of the stories. In The Devil and Tom Walker the devil had a face that was not black or copper colored, but swarthy, dingy, and begrimed with soot. He was big, and was dressed in an Indian garb. The devil also, had thick black hair that was messy, and he carried an axe. in Young Goodman Brown The devil wore grave and decent clothes. He also looked about 50. He
