Comparing The Crucible And The Black Lives Matter Movement

Different aspects of human nature becomes involved in many topics either in the present time as well as prior events in literature and real life. The Crucible for example displays several types of human nature, this play which was written by Arthur Miller in 1952, similarly acknowledges aspects that are alike those that are brought up in today’s society. The Black Lives Matter movement which recognizes the black race and their rights, shows human nature as well. While The Crucible explores different aspects of human nature, the issues of the Black Lives Matter Movement in contemporary society illustrates we are still faced with issues of the capacity involving mass hysteria, difference or othering, and majority over minority. In The Crucible, people that are accused of witchcraft have the option to either confess to witchcraft or be hanged. Innocent people were being hanged for witchcraft, and the only way for them to live is to confess to something they are not guilty of. This devastating future for all people accused of witchcraft upset many people, and soon some began fighting for those innocent of the charge as well as restoring their will to live. Similarly, the Black Lives Matter movement was created after an injustice between people which resulted in the death of someone who was only the victim. According to the Black Lives Matter Movement, it was created as a call to black people in 2012, after the horrible murder of the unarmed Trayvon Martin was committed by officer George Zimmerman. While in The Crucible, when people were being blamed for witchcraft, people began to stand up for those being incriminated.
