In the autobiography of Malcom X, one of the driving influences in his life was the ongoing relationship with race and racism around him For instance, during his childhood, he was constantly relocated from one place to the other. Spark notes states that, “His father was brutally killed by white people and his mother was institutionalized into a mental hospital.” (Paragraph 1-3) Spark notes continues to say that in his life growing up, “Malcom X faced racism when his teacher discouraged him to study law because she said it was not a profession for African American.” (Paragraph 1-3).The auto biography of Malcom X also continues to explain that while this was happening he wasn’t aware that it was racism, only when he was in prison through his readings that he realized that there was racism against people of color. The new Jim Crow is similar to the autobiography of Malcom X in that Michelle ‘s central thesis focuses on how the way racism and prejudice have caused a biased criminal justice system that takes people to the previous years of oppression. She goes on to explain that there is racial profiling with police officers under the disguise of war on drugs.
