Both the Abbasid and the Song have received tremendous amounts of appreciation from critics and enthusiasts alike. Nowadays, the Song Dynasty’s literature and poetry is considered to be one of the greatest achievements in Chinese History. Their literature is broken down into two categories: poetry and prose. The Song even invented a new type of poetry called chih. This type of poetry can be sang like a song instead of simply being simply recited. Some examples of Chinese literature include ¨Listening to the Qin¨ and ¨Song by the River¨. One of the famous poets of the time was Lu You. Because of the way literature was written within the Song, it provided guidelines of how people of a certain religion should act. If the poet believed in Confucianism, it is likely that his poetry would reflect what Confucianists believe and the way they should act present themselves. Within the Abbasid Caliphate,some examples of literature include ¨A Thousand and One Nights¨ and ¨Arabian Nights¨ among other works. Not only did the Chinese create a new form of literature, but so did the Abbasid. Their new type of literature was called maqaman. The art that they created was stucco and pottery. The Mongols didn’t necessarily destroy Song as they did the Abbasid. The Mongols actually adopted some Chinese ways and created the next ruling dynasty of China, Kublai Khan being the emperor.
