"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy." Matthew 5:7. Mercy is something people need, whether they give it or receive it. Love is a prerequisite of mercy. Forgiveness connects people in ways that might benefit each other because if people can forgive each other for their mistakes then that shows mercy to the other person. Trust comes from showing mercy to someone. If people can trust one another than they are able to show mercy in different aspects of other people's lives. Mrs. Luella in "Thank you Ma'am" and Sherlock Holmes in "The Blue Carbuncle" gave mercy to someone they did not even know because they overflowed with love, forgave, and trusted. Mrs. Luella forgave the boy by deciding that she would let him go away without calling the police. Comparison Essay It seems like “Thank You Ma’am” and “Because of Mr. Terupt” Are very different. For instance, one is about a lady who was walking then a pickpocket tried to steal her purse but fails and then the lady keeps him at home and sets him straight, while the other is about a new teacher and their class that takes them down a scary, funny road as students cause trouble and the teacher doesn’t necessarily care. But if you look closer into the two stories, you will see that they both have a common theme, for instance, in both stories the author tries to show us the forgiveness and how it helps with most situations. As stated in the introduction, forgiveness is a big role in these two stories.…

In Judaism, their perspective on this concept is that one who has mistreated another must earnestly seek forgiveness from them, and they are expected to do so a number of times. The victim will be held accountable for the individual’s actions if they do not grant forgiveness, as it is their religious responsibility to do so, and thus, the person who has pursued their pardon will receive this from God instead. This concept of forgiveness is applied throughout the teachings of Judaism. However, if Christians endeavour to achieve forgiveness from God, and have exhibited this to others, the Lord will absolve these individuals from sin. Followers also request that God absolves the acts of unjust from those who committed a sin towards the individual.…

Similarities in Tales of Captivity in 17th Century North America Writings by Mary White Rowlandson and Pierre-Esprit Radisson, colonists taken prisoners by the natives in North America during the 18th century, help to show the similarities in the situations experienced by those captured. One similarity seen in their experiences is that they each found natives that gave them mercy when they each were in desperate times of need. Also, both narratives show how captivity often brought out the darker sides of those kidnapped, and their writings display how they try to chalk up their actions as necessities of their dire circumstances. Similarly, Mary White Rowlandson and Pierre-Esprit Radisson were witnesses to the types of punishments natives could…

Historically, many atrocities have been committed to certain persons, leading to cycles of revenge and cries of innocence. In politics, forgiveness can only have the true meaning when revenge stops and the accused stop working towards proving innocence. The need to publicly know what mistakes were done is important into accepting and deciding to forgive. Nevertheless, forgiveness differs from mercy because the former entails a situation where the victim works to overcome vices like resentment and hatred while mercy comes in when certain passions like love are involved. Therefore, forgiveness can only occur in the right context.…

Three important themes to consider when reading the Hebrew Bible are God’s relationship with humanity, humanity’s attempt to be like God, and humanity’s disobedience of God. These themes are important in any religious text because they are crucial to understanding the human condition and the purpose of human existence. Genesis reveals how God’s relationship changes because of disobedience, as well as how a desire to be equal to God motivates disobedience. This is important in how it explains the ultimate reason humans sin and how it affects God’s relationship with humanity.…
