I believe that Sugihara and Antigone’s selflessness allowed them to fully embody their causes. To be willing to sacrifice yourself for the greater good of others is the ultimate form of selflessness; this is exactly what Antigone does as she expresses that “[she is] not afraid of the danger; if it means death” (Sophocles 193) Antigone was more than willing to endure any pain, whether it be emotional or physical, if it meant that her brother may lie in peace. She neither feared the future nor fate and cared only that Polyneices’s received the proper burial that he so rightfully deserved and for others to properly mourn the deceased. Similarly, Sugihara also expressed his willingness to take punishments if it meant that other lives may spared,
