Both stories is a frame memory that looks back to the childhood and reflects on it, and they are both written in the firs-person point of view. The protagonist in this story fantasizes his relationship with Maybelle Watts a senior at school but she does not notice him at all. He keeps on trying until one day she finally notices him and his fantasy’s came true. This was too good to be true because after a while Maybelle starts going off with another guy. Petes relationship with Maybelle is just a dream but his relationship with Sucker was reality and he realizes that but it is too late. Maybelle going off with another guy made him realize that their relationship was not real and that really hurt him, “I can’t divide time up and say this happened….The more ashamed I felt for making a fool of myself the more I ran after her.” This realization made him ignore and hurt the people that he loves, and most of all it ruined his relationship with Sucker, “But most of the time Sucker stays by himself….sometimes this look in his eyes makes me believe that if Sucker could he would kill me.” Petes dream collides with reality and destroys everything he has with Sucker and changes the way he sees the
