The topic of female sexuality is a powerful concept highlighted in all fairytales. The story of “Little Red Riding Hood” by Charles Perrault,“ Little Red Cap” by Grimms brother and the story of “The Little Mermaid” by Hans Christian Anderson have a hidden meaning about sexual curiosity, which is observed by the adult readers. Little Red Riding Hood is a story about women loosing her virginity, which is marked as loosing her innocence. On the other hand, The Little Mermaid is about women sacrificing her sexuality and repressing her identity for love. The color red symbolically defines the color of sin, color of women’s menstrual cycle and color of passion. Altogether the color red in Little Red Riding hood refers to sexuality. Little Red Riding Hood wears Red color outfit, which attracts the wolf towards her. She is attracted towards the wolf, which is the reason she gives the wolf her grandmothers’ address. The authors depicts of her as highly sexually curious: “ ‘Does she live far away?’ asked the wolf. ‘Oh yes,’ replied Little Red Riding Hood, ‘it is yonder by the mill which you can see right below there, and is the first house in the village’.”(Parrault 581) Little Red Riding Hood not only answers the wolf’s question but she gives specific details about the address of the house. She is enjoying the fact that the wolf is showing interest in her, which is the first form of sexual awakening any women goes through when a man shows concern or affection towards her.
