Art is a welcoming means of worshiping God with our whole beings. Francis Schaeffer writes in his two essays, Art and the Bible and Some Perspectives on Art, found in the book, Art and the Bible, that art is a freedom we have to creatively praise God with our whole being and our lives are a work of art offered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in “flaming truth and beauty”. Schaefer writes of how the Bible expresses art in many forms, dance, poetry, music, and images, and the perspectives on art include high art and popular expression that pour out through the Christian as a life of experiencing and transforming as a child of God.

The art of the fiery serpent is art that was used for healing for the Israelites from the snake bites, however, later, when the Israelite started to worship the art, Hezekiah destroyed the art, as stated in the Message, “He removed the shrines on the hills, broke down the obelisks, knocked down the shameful idols of Asherah, and broke up the bronze serpent that Moses had made, because the people of Israel had begun to worship it by burning incense to it,—they had even dignified it with a name, Nehushtan (The Old Serpent).” (2 Kings 18, Message).
