Making sacrifices for the ones you love is an essential, but as Peter S. Beagle stated, “You must must tear out your own, and not expect to get something back.” You can still make sacrifices that are stupid, foolish, and selfish no matter the size of it because you think you are doing it for them, but you actually are doing it for yourself. The books Romeo and Juliet and Of Mice and Men are great examples of showing good and bad sacrifices for the ones you love. Of Mice and Men is set in the 1930’s, and 2 characters, George, and, Lennie, travel around together which was uncommon. The night after Romeo and Juliet, Juliet didn’t know that there families were enemies, and they had love at first site. Latter on that night, Juliet was told by her nurse that Romeo’s family was an enemy of her family. Romeo couldn’t hold back anymore, and had to see her, so he snuck into to Juliet garden. Romeo overheard Juliet talking and heard her say “Oh, Romeo, Romeo! Why are you Romeo? Deny your father and refuse your name. And I’ll no longer be a capulet”(II.II.33-35). Juliet is willing to sacrifice something she loves to be with Romeo. But, I think this is still a foolish sacrifice to make, because Juliet has just met Romeo. It’s immature and silly to make such a decision with someone you just met a few hours ago. But, Of Mice and Men George and Lennie have known eachother for a long time, and George made a similar sacrifice, he left the city Weed when Lennie got in trouble so he could make sure that Lennie didn’t get put away.
