Two lovers, Romeo and Juliet, both born from families that despise each other. This story was originated from William Shakespeare 400 years ago, and is still one of the most popular classics until now. The updated Luhrmann movie best represents Shakespeare's play for the present day viewer as it is modernized with more advanced equipments like guns, helicopters and cars which also makes it more comprehensible. Luhrmann uses modernization throughout the movie while preserving Shakespearean language to capture the audience's attention. By adding in small contradicting details, Luhrmann was able to reproduce a satisfying piece of drama. As we saw in the play version, when Juliet was laying in the tomb Romeo came and found out she was “dead”, he expressed his emotions and committed to dying with her. He drank the poison peacefully without any disturbance from others and Juliet remained “dead” throughout until after the poison took her lover’s life. The same scene in the movie was quite different, Juliet awakens just as Romeo was about to drink the poison, but she did not stop him in time which lead to the death of Romeo in that movie as well. Juliet killed herself after witnessing Romeo’s suicide with his gun while she killed herself with a dagger in the original play. Luhrmann uses the gun as a symbol of modernization, because in 1996, people did not use swords anymore, they created guns and use them as a weapon. Compared to the original play of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses a dagger instead, because in his time, daggers were commonly used as a weapon. The final destiny of this drama was presented by The Prince (Captain Prince), who stated that the Montagues and Capulet stop their feud and they will construct a statue for the 2 lovers as
