Two characters that draw close comparisons are that of Homer Hickam in Rocket Boys and Eddie’s father in The Five People You Meet in Heaven. The men have similarities in their work, and their relationships with their families. Through comparison of these characters, their vocations along with relationships with their families will show how they parallel. Both Homer Hickam and Eddie’s father are men that have jobs that involve manual labor. Homer worked in the coal mines, and Eddie’s father worked on the rides and machines at Ruby Pier. All these men wanted were for their sons to value hard work as much as they did. When Eddie went to work with his father, he would come home with grease on his fingernails. According to Albom (2003)
