Cory is a person that does not have to hide or shy away from the world, but probably wish he could. He was admired by the community, every person who was any person, wanted to be him. He had it all as people would say. Conversely, that’s the outer exterior, what was actually going on inside, behind closed doors? In stanza 1- 4, “Whenever Richard Cory went down town, We people on the pavement looked at him: He was a gentleman from sole crown, Clean favor imperially slim” (Perkins 85). One would think, what would make a man get dressed and take the same route downtown so the people could admire him.
