Imprisonment within Revenge As humans, we have emotions that sometimes get the best of us. People tend to seek revenge in the heat of the moment or with a well carried out plan. The revenge, however, doesn't always bring that closure that is expected. Committing an act of revenge is deemed morally wrong. In “Clean” by Edward J. Delaney, the unnamed protagonist murders a peer out of jealousy in drunken rage, spur-of-moment decision.…

Revenge is the act of getting back at someone who has previously caused an inconvenience to one. Whether the revenge taken is abstract or concrete, it can cause huge problems for both the one receiving and the one bestowing. In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s, The Great Gatsby, the idea of revenge is seen in an abstract form due to the main character Jay Gatsby getting back at the world. Along with abstract there is also concrete revenge which is seen in Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s short story, The Yellow Wallpaper, because of the wife’s desire to prove her husband wrong and the girl on the wallpaper eventually succeeding in driving the wife crazy. One of William Shakespeare’s greatest works, Hamlet, utilizes the idea of concrete revenge by applying great concrete consequences to its main characters.…

Human misery often creates sadness and leaves one stranded looking for answers. Through Hamlet, revenge and human misery are a recurring and dominant theme. Sweet Sweet Revenge Hamlet, considered Shakespeare’s best play deals in a large part with the topic of revenge. The characters in the play do not simply worry about how they will get their revenge, but they also find doubts in their minds about whether seeking their revenge would serve a good purpose and also about what they should do if they don’t seek out their revenge. Although the main character Hamlet definitely deals with seeking his revenge on King Claudius, the support character Laertes also has to deal with seeking his revenge against Prince Hamlet. Laertes’ thirst for the blood of Prince Hamlet does not set in until later in the play after Hamlet kills his father Polonius. Soon after the death of his father, Laertes seems hell bound to do all in his ability to get his revenge saying to the King “I dare damnation.…

His most acclaimed work, Hamlet, is extensively studied and analyzed as it confronts and speaks openly about many moral, ethical, emotional truths and dilemmas. The theme of revenge in the play is undoubtedly the most significant as it underlies every scene and introduces retributive justice for the bereaved characters within the play. This is demonstrated as the act of revenge causes Hamlet to be inundated with…
