Relationships with Parents

Jackie French's novel Macbeth and Son, was published in 2006. The book is about two boys that struggle from losing their Father. Luke's step-father Sam is a famous TV presenter and Lulach's step-father is a good king and restores peace. They have similar issues even though their 1000 years apart.
The non-linear text stucture allows readers to compare the issues of the two boys with complications and tense times with their parents."It was everything that Sam had done, trying to make Luke something he wasn't." (French 2006, p.66). Luke highlights that he is not happy with his step-father is he dreams of the Vikings. "This is what it's like, he thought, to have a hero as a stepfather" (French 2006,p.44). This is a example of the language features like 'hero' it means someone to look up to, he says this after macbeth saves the village. Luke says this because he finds his stepfather as a bad role model and the reason that his stepfather Sam made him cheat in his test. "What will i be when there's a new mormaer? His step-son...not his son."(French 2006,p.9). Even know Luke looks up to Macbeth, Lulach hated him, the verb hated shows his very strong dislike towards Macbeth. He Dislikes Macbeth because of the fact of that he replaced his father and doesn't want to face the fact of his father is dead and gone forever. The language features intelligently represents the issue of relationships with parents. Finally, teenagers at some stage of their life, they go through a time when they find it hard to talk to parents. In the novel Macbeth and Son, it shows us our modern day issues are hardly as bad as the problems that occurred during the Viking time, but there still cleverly similar in some prospects.
