Decent Essays
Some of the similarities of Ralph and Jack are they both are older boys who are quickly establishing to be the leaders of the island. They both agree that rules are necessary for their survival. They differ because Jack is so focused on killing a pig he forgets about the most important things, like survival and shelter. Ralph and Jack disagree what is important. Jack says, “you need an army-- for hunting. Hunting pigs--”(32). Jack thinks too much about himself and glory of killing a pig. Ralph, on the other hand, thinks more about the safety and well-being of all the boys. Ralph understands the importance of a shelter. It is not just to keep the rain off the boys but also to make them feel safe and warm. Jack and Ralph are competing

The boys have lost trust in each other, in result of this, two boys were killed and many pigs were killed. For example, in chapter nineteen, page 184, “Cry of the Hunters”, Golding says, “The breaking of the conch and the deaths of Piggy and Simon lay over the island like a vapor.” This means that these lives were lost because the boy had lost trust in each other and killed boys that did not have to die. The next example of this is the boys are constantly killing pigs. “Ralph’s right of course.…

The arguments between Ralph and Jack played a big role in the societal breakdown of the kids on the island. Right off from the beginning those two argue about being chief. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Ralph and Simon are characters whose goodness both reflects through their kind treatment of the littluns and their want for regulation and rules. One of the reasons why Ralph wanted to build shelters is to calm the littluns’ anxiety from a nonexistent existent beast. Ralph response,“Well. They're [the littluns are] frightened, ‘to Jack asking about his decision to build huts proves this logic (Golding 52). Similarly, Simon helps the littluns get fruit when he could just ignore them.…

Ralph, Piggy, and Simon fall under the category of “well-intentioned people.”…

Ralph is a strong leader as long as the other kids are still civilized, represented by the fire, until the kids begin to get wild. At this point, survival gets more important than being rescued, so the fire is no longer a priority and it ends up dying, which represents the kids became completely wild. During the “peaceful times”, the conch and assemblies, which represent the civilized part of the children, are common but become far less frequent as the story progresses, and the only one who at the end still believes in those items is Ralph, which makes him the only child who doesn’t become wild. It’s also interesting that the conch doesn’t disappear from…
