Comparing R & B And Hip-Hop/Rap Music

Everyone enjoys listening to music and everyone prefer their own type they listen to. This will be about my two favorite types of music: r&b and hip-hop. R&b and hip-hop music both have grown from something special that also form them to be very differentiated between the two. They have so much in common but are also unique in their own ways. There is so much information about the cultural background of both R&B and Hip-Hop/Rap music. R&b is referred to as rhythm and blues. It has been performed since the 1930s. Hip hop is considered to be rap also. And this has been performed for many years but became very popular and major in the 1990s. Hip hop and rap was descended from the blues, but it come from more of the oral arts and games that have been shared among African Americans as cultural traditions parallel to the blues. According to Kruse (2016), “All hip-hop musicians are tasked with simultaneously connecting to the global culture of hip-hop while representing their local contexts” (p53-58). Both are predominantly performed by African-Americans. …show more content…
Hip-hop producers commonly use a technique called sampling. By taking previously recorded music and remix, reorder, or otherwise reimagine the material. R&b composers use this technique where they melismas. And they tend to always note the emotions or communication they are connecting it to. Some of the best hip-hop composers there are: Eminem, Jay Z, Tupac Shakur. Some of the best r&b composers are: Beyonce, Usher, and Whitney Houston. There are so many great composers that could be names within those two categories but those are just a few. Vocals in R&B tend to focus on clarity and musical virtuosity, hip-hop vocals rarely emphasize singing and stress complexity and flow of the beat or
