Comparing Qantas And Virgin Australia

Everyone seems to look for the lowest possible airfare to get from A to B. Most people don't seem to care how they fly and will do everything they can to get there for the same price as a nice t-shirt. On the other hand, the full-service airlines have checked luggage, a meal and other extras that will cost a little more than a nice shirt; like a lot more.
Australians basically have four choices of airlines. Two are budget and two are full-service carriers. Each type has its benefits and pitfalls, depending on the circumstance and what you, the passenger, are looking for. A quick weekend trip away or that catch up with family over the holidays where all you need is a couple items that can fit in a carry-on bag may be a perfect fit for a budget friendly, low-cost carrier. Sometimes, though, that big trip comes up, or you must travel for work and that's when you have to make a choice. Low cost, or full service?

If traveling heavy, with multiple checked in bags, it may be easier and cheaper to book on a full-service airline. On the other hand, if traveling light, you have to work out if the benefits of a cheap ticket outweigh the risks of not being able to change the date or time of travel. If budget is the way you choose to book, be warned; once you book that money is gone forever. If delayed on a flight leading to a connection, budget airlines will not automatically rebook you onto a new flight. Traveling internationally for example from Adelaide to Singapore, once again have these options. Singapore Airlines is the full-service carrier that flies direct to Singapore from Adelaide and includes two checked bags, two meals, refreshments, entertainment and their renowned cabin crew all in the fare. Say you don’t want to spend a couple hundred of dollars on the airfare, Singapore Airlines can also help you. Time to look at Singapore Airlines subsidiary,

In addition to fuel/maintenance costs previously discussed, marketing is kept cheap through conducting most advertising online via email while selling advertising space in their planes (Nicas, 2012). The aircraft seats are closely spaced with little legroom and no ability to recline, allowing more paying passengers per flight. Fees are applied to virtually every extra convenience, from having a boarding pass printed at the airport or the ability to choose one’s seat, to a charge for water as well as each checked or carry-on bag (which not only generates revenue, but discourages passengers from taking lots of luggage, thereby saving weight and fuel) (Carey, 2011). As of 2015, Spirit’s market share in the United States was just 2.5% (nearly 7 times less than Delta Airlines’ 17% market share) while their bag revenue at $215 million (ranked fifth highest of all U.S. carriers) was almost a full third of Delta’s ($661 million, highest of U.S. carriers).…

Although I fly consistently with my current career, I have had little interaction with JetBlue due to the lack of flights out of Nashville. Therefore, your idea of JetBlue being an airliner operation that offered luxury type service with low-cost prices enticed me to do some research. Similar to Southwest, JetBlue operates with a service first mentality which has previously and recently won JetBlue the JDM”s North American Airline Satisfaction Study. While it appears that JetBlue’s low-price and differentiation structure has operated effectively it has not been without its hiccups. In 2015, JetBlue made the decision to begin enforcing checked baggage fees as investors applied pressure to increase revenue after seeing the success of “no frills”…

The future of Southwest Airlines will continue on its voyage of innovation, growth and adaptability. Growing the company into the future means, “Leadership must determine clear goals while balancing the need for a formal structure against growth and adaptation” (Steagall, 2016). The original problem the leaders of Southwest saw was, airline travel was slow, expensive and full of features that most people did not really want or care about. Guess what, that problem still rings true today and now new costs have been added or re-added back into the mix, such as baggage fees and change fees. CEO Gary Kelly continues to believe that every person who wants to travel should be able to, without worrying about the cost, even internationally, which…
