The location where Pride and Prejudice is in England and the places where the novel mentions are Hertfordshire, London, and Kent. On the other hand, in the musical, the setting takes place at a whole different country. This makes an importance on the story because it shows two different types of people, culture, and religion. For example, in the movie, India has a different culture than in England. Just like the book mentions “Your sisters are engaged, and there is not another woman in the room whom it would not be a punishment to me to stand up with,” (Austen 8).This means that their culture does not dance with engaged women. Also, in the movie, when they have the balls, their dances involve singing and more of a fast type of dance. Meanwhile, in the novel, the dances seem to be more of a traditional ball dance. The novel took place during the 1820’s, while in the musical, the setting was in 2004, a more modern situation. The different time periods the stories take place in makes them each important because then, it shows that even with a different time period, some things from earlier times are still used or are similar to today. In this case, the stories are described during different time periods, but the story they have is very similar. During the 1820’s, there was not much technology as in 2004, so there was no cars or airplanes to travel, Instead, they depended on carriages to go from place to place like the character, Elizabeth, did when she wanted to go visit her sister Jane. “Elizabeth feeling really anxious was determined to go to her though the carriage was not to be had,” (Austen 27). Unlike in the musical, the characters depended on cars and airplanes to move from place to place. Since the musical has faster transportation, the characters traveled to further places and it takes almost the same amount of time as when they used the carriages to travel. In this case, the musical reveals more places traveled, so it helps us understand why they have to stop halfway from their destination because it would take a long
