Both authors use characterization to convey the theme of power. In Animal Farm, Napoleon uses the dogs to protect his power. In the text it says ‘‘but suddenly sitting around Napoleon let out deep menacing growls, and the pigs fell silent and sat down again’’ (54). You can see in animal farm that napoleon’s dogs make the other pigs fear him which characterizes Napoleon is taking advantage of his power. In Mouseland it is said how the government is made entirely of cats. In the text it says they had ‘’A government made up of big fat black cats’’ (3). This means that there are no mice in the government which means that the are unfair to the mice . In the end of Animal Farm the other animals could not distinguish the pigs from men. In the text it says ‘’ the creatures out side looked from pig to men,and from men to pig,and from pig to men again but already it was impossible to say which was which’’ ( ). This quote shows that the pigs had too much power that they looked like humans. In Mouse land a mouse tried to put a mouse in the government but got locked up. In the text it says ‘’ so they put him in jail. But i want to remind you : that you can lock up a mouse or man but you can’t lock up an idea’’ ( ).
