In this first quote in the poem that proves my theory of the message uses imagery and it says “you felt the old tug at your ankles “Mend My Life””. This shows how the author is fighting with depression and suicide trying to take the good route. The next quote uses metaphor and it says “you finally know what you had to do, and began though the voices around you kept shouting their bad advice”. What I believe this shows is how lots of people can try and help you on the way but only you know what’s happening and only you can make the choice of fighting or giving in. The final quote also uses metaphor and it states “you didn't stop you knew what you had to do” what I believe this means is that you knew that you were the only one to stop your depression for everyone you love and yourself and you weren't gonna stop no matter what. In conclusion I stick with my thesis in saying that In “Laughing Heart” by Charles Bukowski it shares the same message with the poem “The Journey” by Mary Oliver which is to fight against depression and that there is always a way
