To Begin, The poem The Lorax uses words to describe a once beautiful landscape and how its current condition is a terrible place full of chemicals.The text states, “You’re making such smogulous smoke”(Seuss line 13). This uses the word smogulous which is a nonsense word. The author chose to use this word because this adds more fun to the story. This affects the story because not only do you have to figure out what this word means it adds a different effect to the story. In comparison, the story the Jabberwocky uses similar nonsense words to affect the poem. The text states, “And, as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came”(Carroll lines 13-16). This uses the word glumping to describe how the Once-ler is affecting the pond.If they were to use real language, this would make the poem seem blander. Similarly the poem Jabberwocky has a lot of the nonsense words. The text states, “Come to my arms, my beamish boy”(Carroll line 22)!This line uses the word beamish to describe how happy the boy is.
