In the beginning of the story “The Most Dangerous Game,” the author, Richard Connell, takes the reader into the darkness of the night. Both authors provide a great deal of foreshadowing and suspense. Poe gives us the feeling of the death that is soon awaiting Fortunato by taking us through the crypt where, ¨Its walls had been lined with human remains, piled to the vault overhead, in the fashion of the great catacombs of Paris¨ (Poe 869), but the reader can not be sure what is going to happen to Fortunato.
