Comparing Piggy And Ralph In William Golding's Lord Of The Flies

Ralph and Piggy show their unique personality traits in this chapter, which causes them to do actions that are irrational or well thoughtout. Piggy shows his bravery and maturity, while Ralph shows his passion and irrationality. To begin, Piggy was very courageous and showed his maturity when going after Jack. For example, when he proposed the plan to the others he spoke with such fluency that I believed in him. Even though he was scared and trembling when he finished, his bravery shocked me. Piggy was scared of Jack since he first met him, and it was truly remarkable to see this weak and blinded boy stand to what he believed in; even if he only had three boys behind him on it. For example, he leaves Piggy alone even though he cannot see and focuses on winning his fight with Jack rather than what they came here for the first place. He also left the twins alone and let them get captured by Jack. This shows his negative qualities and how they did not help him nor Piggy. I understood why he fought back, but he was always too caught up in the moment. He kept forgetting why he was there and what was important, which led him to ignore his surroundings. At the end, he tried to convince the others to think rationally, but Ralph does not have the eloquence he used to. Ralph should have known that his words were not enough, but he was too stubborn to realize that the others would not listen to him anymore. Additionally, Ralph is the leader and should have made sure that the twins and Piggy were safe from harms way when he approached Jack on his own. He acted out on pure instinct and was the main reason why they lost. They weren’t prepared and Ralph did not act like a leader at all, even though that is his role. Clearly, Ralph showed many of his negative traits and made many decisions that I did not particularly agree
