The Hunger Games is based on science fiction and is the first out of three books in Suzanne Collin’s trilogy. The three novels gained much popularity and have been developed into a series of movies. The setting for The Hunger Games is a dystopian city called Panem, which is a country that consists of the wealthy Capitol and the twelve districts in poverty. Panem was made of thirteen districts, but one year the thirteen districts wanted to gain power over the Capitol. During this attempted revolution, District 13 was destroyed and as a punishment, the twelve remaining districts must participate in a mandatory annual televised death match called The Hunger Games. Peeta is the male tribute from District 12. He is in love with Katniss. He is also Katniss main ally and romantic interest during the game. In the book and movie, Peeta is portrayed as a kind individual. Many times, Peeta saved Katniss’s life. Before The Hunger Games, Peeta found Katniss searching for food near Peeta’s family bakery. Peeta purposely burnt two pieces of bread so the bakery could not use them, and he gave them to Katniss. During The Hunger Games, he saves Katniss again when she is stunned by the tracker jacker stings, which were engineered wasps that causes hallucinations and can lead to death.
Haymitch Abernathy is another main character in The Hunger Games. He was District 12’s winner of the previous Hunger Games. Haymitch is Katniss’s and Peeta’s couch throughout the games. Although Haymitch was portrayed to have a drinking problem, therefore not taking his job as a trainer seriously, he was the one who thought of a strategy to allow both Katniss and Peeta to survive. His plan was to build a romance between the two tributes. Haymitch was also the mains supporter for Katniss and Peeta. Gale became the supporter of Katniss’s family too, providing for them with animals he has hunted and protecting them. The movie had no mention of this. Also, the movie did not show that the scene where the Capitol sent cameramen to District 12 to interview her family and friends. When they interviewed Gale, he had to appear on-screen with Katniss’s cousin because people from the Capitol thought Gale was too handsome. They thought because of his looks and his close relationship with Katniss, it would jeopardize Katniss’s pretense romance with
