I decided to do my compare and contrast paper on “Our Secret” written by Isabel Allen and the story “Wicked Girl” also written by Isabel Allen. In the story “Our Secret” the young boy and young girl whose names aren’t mention they share a hurt that doesn’t let them trust one another. It seems as though these two have been through something harsh that it is hard for them to share a connection because although they do share it, it isn’t fully opened to them. “He could not talk to her about that, because one thing leads to another, and he would end up saying things that had never been spoken.” Page 167. As you see in that sentence he states how there isn’t a trust fully developed for him to open up to her and speak to her as someone he would think

Both stories do end up with love which is very sweet. As continued in the story “Our secret” the young boy learns that the girl is something more to him than just a love making material, she teaches him that she knows more to him that he thinks and that it is something good for the both of them. “He had a presentiment that she was not just a girl willing to make love for the sake of pity but that she knew the thing that crouched beyond the silence, beyond absolute solitude, beyond the sealed box where he had hidden from the colonel and his own treachery, beyond the memory of Ana Diaz and the other betrayed companeros being led in one by one by one with their eyes blindfolded.” Page 169. He realizes that he could trust her more than what he thought he could. He realizes that they both share a secret that they had never told anyone because of a scared thought. “For a timeless instant he stared at them, unmoving, until he understood everything, love, and saw her strapped to the electric grid, and then they could embrace, and weep, hungry for pacts and confidences, for forbidden words, for promises tomorrow, shared, finally, the most hidden secret.” Page 169. As the story ends Isabel Allen lets us know that at last the young man and young women both find what they were searching for. The story ends in
