It is hard to see in the advanced program because all of the parents “push” their children, but while I lived in Nipawin there was a clear distinction. The children who had parents that had gone to university and done well in school were also pressured to do well in school, whereas the children whose parents had never done well in school simply did not care because their parents didn’t care. As the poem “On Children” by Kahlil Gibran says: “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.” And “For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.” As a parent you should feel obligated to be a good and stable bow and give your children the best start possible for life while they are still too young to take control on their own. Too many parents simply stand by and let their kids do as they please, they have no expectations and, as a result, the kids become lazy and never even learn to push
