Odysseus and Ulysses have many differences, but they also have many similarities. First of all, they have the same name because Odysseus’s Latin name is Ulysses. The difference in this case is that Ulysses mostly goes by the name Everett. Another similarity between the two is that they both want to get home to their families. When Odysseus is on Calypso’s island, “he [sits] on the rocky shore… with eyes wet” (Homer 5:84-85). This shows that Odysseus still thinks about his family. They both like to eat a lot and they are big men. The Cyclops eats Odysseus’s men and Big Dan eats Everett’s picnic food. The Cyclops is “Poseidon's one eyed monster” (Homer 760). Big Dan T also has one eye. They both harm the men in different ways. In the movie Big Dan beats up Everett and Delmar and takes their car and money. In the book the Cyclops eats Odysseus’s men for his dinner. Lastly, Big Dan has two eyes and is blind in one of his eyes, but they Cyclops only has one eye. Again, between the movie and the book, there are many similarities and differences to pick out. The main three are Everett and Odysseus, Homer and Mr. Lund, and the Cyclops and Big Dan. Lastly, back then people only had stories to entertain them. So Homer used that to make a living and people ended up loving it and they used his stories to help create their own.
